OK, I am a grandmother raising twin granddaughters who are now almost 10. They were mo-mo (mono-amniotic mono-chorenic (sp)twins, born between 27 and 28 weeks. Z. was 2 lbs 4 oz, and K. was 1 lb 14 oz. Their cords were severely entangled, and K.s had a true knot. She was not breathing when born, and is a true miracle. She has mild to moderate CP, while Z. has anxiety problems. Our raising them instead of their mother has nothing do with her love for her girls. It is just a long story, for another time and place. If any one knows anything about Mo-Mo twins, you will know that the parents have nothing to do with their premature birth or problems.
I am finding out that some problems we are having with them, could be common to premature kids, and maybe some kind of related to the CP. I just would like to talk to other parents, and maybe help each other, encourage each other, maybe even see some things going on with our kids that aren't in the "books".
An example, K. has been having problems this year (4th Grade) that she hasn't had, in the past. She has been crying, sometimes excessively, at school when she can't keep up. I know that she is going through a growing spurt, and is run down. I found out from a mother I met when the girls were in Early Intervention preshcool, whose son has CP, that not only is he having the same problem, but so is another boy at school who also has CP. They are in another school district so I didn't know. She is also having a lot of problem with Math this year, where in the past she was able to keep up. I saw on line that Preemie kids can have problems with Math. One site I went to said to look out for anxiety problems with Preemie Kids, but haven't found that site again.
There could be a lot of things that are going on, that we may not associate with the CP or Preemie Kids, but the more we share, the more we may learn. Dr.s only see the kids sometimes, while we are with them all the time.
Hopefully, some of you will find this blog, and we can share. They don't have to be these exact problems, please just share!
